Quinn: Settling in with the guys has been great

Just a few games into the year, and Rising offseason capture Aodhan Quinn isn’t short of positive comments about settling in with his new teammates.

“They’re super easygoing,” Quinn said. “They’re very personable. The culture at the club is great so that was easy. It was just getting to know the style of play.

“I’m better when I know guys and know how they play and where they want the ball, and I think that’s still a work in progress but it’s getting better. It obviously is a lot better than it was in preseason so it’s good.”

For the San Diego native, that means fitting into a demanding midfield trio, where coach Rick Schantz expects his players to be fully committed to all phases of play.

“It’s a very forward thinking style, and I think that suits me because I’m always trying to pass forward,” Quinn said. “We don’t possess as much as I probably did in the past with my other teams, but that’s fine because we’re scoring more goals and we’re winning games.

“As a midfielder, he wants us to run and defend and get the ball, turn it over quickly, and I think that suits me too because I’m willing to run for the guys next to me.”

His introduction has been a successful one, with the club winning both of its matches to open the season and Quinn himself getting on the scoresheet. Both of those games were played in front of a home crowd which, despite being limited to 50% capacity, made no shortage of noise.

“The San Diego game was incredible,” Quinn said. “I think the crowd really brought it, we really felt it and we played off it. I’m really excited for when we go full capacity because I think it’s going to be crazy.

“At O.C. we didn’t get too many fans, but coming here I was looking forward to it and I haven’t been let down at all.”

Now, his side faces its first road trip of the season. For Quinn, as one of the new players, that means taking on a tradition: getting up and singing.

But what is his song of choice?

“I haven’t figured it out yet,” he laughed. “I’ll have to think. I have to go through the library on Spotify. Whatever I sing, it’s not going to be good.”

Rising faces Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday at 5 p.m. Arizona time. The game will air live nationally on ESPN2.
